It’s a shame to be so excited to make a beautiful bolognese only to find out that the mince you used is not up to par.
It’s not a smooth mince consistency. Instead, it is a mixture of chunks and lumps that are (delicious). All you wanted was a smooth mince consistency.
What do people say about lumpy mince?
We asked the Facebook community how to avoid lumps. It turns out that people are aware of the problem and have their tricks.
“I use a wooden spatula and break the mince up as it browns.”
“I mash it with a pasta server. Easier to clean than a potato masher.”
“I use a small metal whisk. Works very well.”
“I break mine up with an egg flipper.”
So you can see from the wide range of comments when it comes to lumpy mince that it’s on the national agenda. Big. Important. Stuff.
What say the experts about lumpy mince
Amira Georgy is Taste’sfood Director. We asked her what tricks and tips she had up her sleeves when it came to making a smooth, delicious mince. Here’s what she told us.
She said, “I find that if I let my mince sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before cooking it, it cooks more evenly.”
You can make mince lump-free by blending it.
It’s a mistake to add the block of raw mince to the pan without first crumbling it. Instead, it would be best if you used your hands to break it up before adding it to the pan.
The wooden spatula is a better tool to use to break up the mince than a wooden spoon, as the surface area of the wooden spatula makes more contact with the mince. This makes it easier to break the mince up.
The personal favorite of the Taste team to the rescue
Hackit is the perfect choice if you want something super-fast. It’s safe to say that if you haven’t yet met it, it will become your fast friend. We are obsessed.
Hackit is a kitchen gadget that is becoming increasingly popular.
It costs only $14 and is very effective at breaking up meat. This allows for even cooking and meat that melts in the mouth.
We wanted results as soon as possible, and while the wooden spoon or masher could work, we didn’t want to wait. (Impatient? Maybe. Efficient? Certainly.)
I want to know more about Hackit.
We understand you. We were, too. We were so taken with it that we decided to do a little road test for our Taste Test Kitchen.
Check out our Hackit Review. It’s very informative, delicious, and important. Included are pictures and videos.
Now that we have a perfectly smooth mince, why not try it on as many mince recipes as you like?
